Empowering the Next Generation of EHS Professionals at Indiana University of PA

Building on our warm welcome last fall, the Pittsburgh Section AIHA is proud to showcase the continued engagement of students from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) Safety Sciences program.

Communications in Action: We are excited to highlight the 20 members of the Safety, Health, and Environmental Communications class (SAFE 215) who joined our local section. Their coursework focuses on developing the technical and oral communication skills necessary to lead safety initiatives—skills they are already putting into practice as active AIHA members.
Passing the Torch: Strengthening student leadership is a core priority for our section. Recently, Pittsburgh AIHA President, Darrick Bertig, met with the IUP AIHA Student Chapter for a strategic meeting. This session brought together incoming and outgoing student board members, alongside IUP faculty, to ensure a seamless transition of leadership and maintain the chapter's momentum into the next academic year.

By fostering these early connections, we aren't just welcoming students—we are investing in the future leaders who will drive the industrial hygiene and EHS professions forward.

Pittsburgh 2026 AIHA Election - Nominations Due Now

Our local section depends on its members to volunteer for positions on the executive committee. Serving on the committee is a great way to become more involved in the local section, and you can claim certification maintenance (CM) credit toward your CIH. We are currently asking for nominations for the term serving July 2026- June 2028:

President-elect, 2-year term followed by President (must also be a member of National AIHA)
Treasurer, 2-year term (must also be a member of National AIHA)
Director, 2-year term (need not be a member of National AIHA)

NOTE: The American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) allows you to claim certification maintenance (CM) credit annually for local section office: local section President – 1 point; local section Officer or Director – 0.5 points.

If you would like to volunteer for elections or nominate someone, please email the Executive Committee at [email protected]. A short biography and statement of intent along with a photo are needed for any election candidates and due by February 28, 2026.

2026 National AIHA eLearning Subscription Access NOW!

The National AIHA sent an eLearning notice to subscribers on 2/15/26. Please check your email for the calendar links or log into your online classroom to access the program. If you have any questions or need assistance, you can reach the National team at [email protected].

This benefit is available only to ACTIVE Pittsburgh AIHA members who have renewed their membership for 2026. If you did not receive the eLearning email, please confirm that your membership is current.

Please note that the eLearning program runs through December 2026.
