PORT AUTHORITY OF ALLEGHENY COUNTY -- Associate Occupational Health, Safety & Training Officer

PURPOSE:   This person will implement and provide training on SMS, occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene and other safety aspects of rail and bus operations as well as work closely with Manager to learn all aspects of OHS&T as they relate to operations at Port Authority
  • Develops, coordinates and conducts effective training relating to occupational safety and health programs that include but not limited to; employee right-to-know, hazardous materials and hazardous waste awareness, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, personnel protective equipment, Automated External Defibrillators (AED), bloodborne pathogens, and others as required. (40%)
  • Assists Division Directors and safety staff in investigation and resolution of employee and patron complaints on issues related to OS&H (fumes, dust, odors, air quality, chemicals, etc.) (20%)
  • Assist with the development and implementation of effective occupational safety and health goals, standards, policies and procedures for operations and administration staff. (10%)
  • Assist with the maintenance of occupational safety and health/environmental management databases and computer information systems.  Evaluates and approves chemical products and hazardous substances tested, procured, or used by Port Authority personnel or on Port Authority property. (20%)
  • Assist Manager of Occupational Health & Safety with implementing the necessary air-monitoring and employee sampling programs to effectively monitor exposures and employee health issues. (5%)
 
JOB QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:  or  EDUCATION and/or Experience
  • BA/BS degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health Sciences, Environmental Science/Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related area, preferable in the transit industry.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience delivering, and facilitating educational, informational and job/task programs for adults.
  • Effective and professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Handles multiple tasks and adheres to deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated ability in the use of Windows, Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Availability on a 24-hour per day, 7 day per week basis.
