January 21, 2015 - 1:00 - 3:00 PM Building Science and IEQ Investigations Presented by Joseph A. Hughes, Jr. CIEC, MRS
Please join the Pittsburgh AIHA on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 for our first event of the year that will be hosted by AM Health & Safety located in Robinson, PA. `` The event will include a 2-hour presentation on Building Science and IEQ Investigations: A discussion of building science and mold investigations including other types of IEQ issues and the role understanding building science plays in these investigations. Building science is a term that has been in use for quite some time now but came into the mainstream about 15 years ago. Much of the early research in this area was done in Canada through the Canada Mortgage Housing Corporation. Over the past 15 years a lot more research has been done in the US through government programs like Build America, by the manufacturers of building materials, builders groups, professional societies and private companies like Building Science Corporation and now Building Science Laboratories/ Building Science Consultants. Most recently the DOE has taken the lead role in new developments in building science. The leaders at DOE know we made a lot of mistakes during the first energy crunch starting in the early 70's. They are working hard to ensure that this time around as we tighten buildings and move toward "Net Zero" energy buildings we build tight and ventilate right.
