(This webinar is already loaded in paid Pittsburgh AIHA Member's online e-learning classroom)

Amidst the flood of information about the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the greatest risks is missing key intelligence that can protect health and save lives. This town hall-style webinar, co-hosted by AIHA and the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), will address occupational health and safety professionals’, industrial hygienists’ and infection preventionists’ questions about ventilation, surface disinfection, respirators, construction issues, occupational health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Participants will hear from Larry Sloan, AIHA CEO, Katrina Crist, APIC CEO, and presenters Roberta Smith and Lewis Johnson.

The webinar is free of charge for AIHA and APIC Members, as well as the general public. CIHs and CICs may earn 1.5 contact hours toward their respective accreditations.

Learning Objectives:
  • The difference between a procedure mask and an N95 respirator as well as emergency use of industrial-grade respirators;
  • The role of contact, droplet, and airborne transmission of COVID-19 according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC);
  • The appropriate PPE for droplet and airborne precautions;
  • Alternatives to respirators;
  • The differences in the infection prevention approach for non-healthcare locations;
  • Identifying locations within a hospital facility where COVID-19 exposure is most likely to occur;
  • The six potential problems with rebalancing general ventilation to create negative pressure zones for use in place of AIIR.

AIHce EXP Plans for COVID-19 - Update from National AIHA

March 24, 2020: An updated message from AIHA CEO, Larry Sloan

Ever since I wrote to you on March 16 about AIHce EXP 2020, the prevalence of COVID-19 has worsened across the US. Given the ever-increasing severity of the pandemic, the AIHA Board of Directors has tasked the AIHce EXP staff to devise various scenarios for bringing quality education to the membership this year in the event that we end up not hosting a live event in Atlanta.

The staff has been considering the following scenarios:
  • Continuing to host a smaller version of the live event
  • Hosting a hybrid live event (live event with increased virtual elements)
  • Hosting an entirely virtual event
  • Postponing/rescheduling the event
  • Cancelling the event
In order to make the best informed decision, staff has conferred with various sources including the conference keynote speakers, session presenters, attorneys, and vendors to figure out the most efficient and effective way to deliver education to our members and customers, while observing safety and prudence first and foremost.

By April 16, we will announce the final decision about how AIHA will deliver education to you this year despite these tenuous times. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,
Lawrence D. Sloan
Chief Executive Officer
National AIHA
