Election Results - Pittsburgh AIHA Executive Committee Updates

4/15/2026

Following the recent Local Section Election, we would like to congratulate the following Pittsburgh AIHA members who will begin their term of office this summer!

President-Elect: Josh Maskrey, CIH
Director: Matt Zock, CIH
Treasurer: Frank Porkrywka, Ed.D, CIH

Thank you to our current Committee members. Darrick Bertig, CIH, CSP, CUSA, MS, will conclude his term as President and will be succeeded by current President‑Elect Zane Frund, PhD, MPH, CIH, MBA, who will serve as President through July 2027. Morgan Ryan ends her term as Director. Dane Mitcheson will remain Secretary, and MaryAnn Hoff, MS, MPM, CIH, will continue serving as Director, each through July 2027. Thank you to Andrew Wright, CIH, CSP, who volunteered as a candidate for Director during this year's election.

Pittsburgh 2026 AIHA Election - Nominations Due Now

Our local section depends on its members to volunteer for positions on the executive committee. Serving on the committee is a great way to become more involved in the local section, and you can claim certification maintenance (CM) credit toward your CIH. We are currently asking for nominations for the term serving July 2026- June 2028:

President-elect, 2-year term followed by President (must also be a member of National AIHA)
Treasurer, 2-year term (must also be a member of National AIHA)
Director, 2-year term (need not be a member of National AIHA)

NOTE: The American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) allows you to claim certification maintenance (CM) credit annually for local section office: local section President – 1 point; local section Officer or Director – 0.5 points.

If you would like to volunteer for elections or nominate someone, please email the Executive Committee at [email protected]. A short biography and statement of intent along with a photo are needed for any election candidates and due by February 28, 2026.

New Pgh. AIHA Director Named - Darrick Bertig, CIH, CSP, CUSA, MS

1/31/2023

During the 2022 Pittsburgh AIHA Election, Kate Crott was selected as Director for a 2-year term. Due to a job change and relocation, Kate was unable to fulfill her duties, leaving a vacant Director position. The Executive Committee is happy to announce that Darrick Bertig, CIH, CSP, CUSA, MS, Industrial Hygiene Representative for FirstEnergy, will fill the vacant Director position on the Executive Committee through June 30, 2024. Darrick has been a long-standing member of the Pittsburgh AHA and currently serving on the Program Committee.

Open Call for Nominees to the Executive Committee

Our annual local section election will be held in March -- The Pittsburgh AIHA needs volunteers who would like to run for Local Section office for 2022-2023 (term begins July 2022). We are looking for candidates interested in running for President-Elect, Director, and Treasurer.

Responsibilities of the President-Elect (1-year term as President-Elect followed by 1-year term as President) are as follows:

Function as President in the President’s absence;
Chair the Program Committee and serve as a nonvoting member of the Local Sections Council;
Attend as many local section meetings and Board of Directors meetings as able, especially in the President's absence.

Responsibilities of the Director (2-year term) are as follows– does not need to be a member of the National AIHA:

Assist in setting direction and tone for the local section; and
Chair various committees and assume other work as assigned by the President.

Responsibilities of the Treasurer (2-year term) are as follows:

Serve as custodian of all monies due the Section and shall pay all authorized bills against the Section.
Submit the accounts for audit to the Audit Committee.
Transmit to the successor in office all funds and property of the Section in their possession.
An annual financial report shall be submitted to the Section.
