Congratulations to Dakota Funfer, a Safety Management Student at Slippery Rock University, who was selected as the recipient of the 2024 Pittsburgh AIHA Local Section Scholarship.  In a thank you letter to the Pittsburgh AIHA, Dakota noted that he was "Very honored and grateful to be the Pittsburgh AIHA Section Scholarship recipient."   Dakota worked as an Assistant HSE Intern at Allan Myers Inc. in Fairfax Virginia this summer and will enter his Senior year at SRU this fall.  After graduation in May of 2025, Dakota hopes to obtain his CIH and CSP.  

Dakota was recognized at this year's AIHA Connect Conference in Columbus OH along with all AIHF scholarship recipients at The AIHF Donor and Scholarship Recipient Reception held on Sunday, May 19.

​The Pittsburgh AIHA is happy to announce that Sophia Naugle from Slippery Rock University is the recipient of the Pgh. AIHA Local Section scholarship awarded through the American Industrial Hygiene Foundation (AIHF).   Sophia was recognized along with all AIHF scholarship recipients at the 2023 AIHce Conference.

Sophia is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Safety Management and a minor in Leadership.  She also serves as the Social Media coordinator for the SRU Student AIHA Chapter.  Sophia is spending the summer working as an intern at DAVIS Construction.

The Pittsburgh AIHA Is happy to announce that Jacob Brand from Slippery Rock University is the recipient of the 2022 Pittsburgh AIHA Scholarship through the American Industrial Hygiene Foundation (AIHF).

Jacob will be a junior this year at Slippery Rock where he has a dual major,  working towards Bachelor's degrees in Safety Management and Spanish.  Jacob has been the VP of the AIHA Student Chapter at Slippery Rock for the last two years. 

All AIHF scholarship recipients (including Jacob) were recognized at AIHce at The AIHF Donor and Scholarship Recipient Reception held on Sunday, May 22.

The Pittsburgh AIHA is pleased to announce that Alina Schlichtkrull of Slippery Rock University is this year's recipient of the Pittsburgh AIHA Local Section Scholarship awarded through the American Industrial Hygiene Foundation.   

Alina Schlichtkrull is an undergraduate at Slippery Rock University and she is currently studying Safety Management with minors in Human Resources and Psychology. Alina is involved in multiple student organizations, one of them being AIHA. She participated in the meetings conducted by the student section and plans to stay an active member in the upcoming school year. This past year, Alina was the ASSP Student Chapter President at Slippery Rock University. SRU's ASSP Student Section conducted online meetings to keep students involved in the organization throughout the pandemic and from their accomplishments, they were awarded the ASSP Outstanding Student Section of the Year Award. Alina is currently interning with The Cincinnati Insurance Companies over the course of the summer and plans to graduate in the spring 2022 semester.  Continue reading the post by clicking below....

Over the past 30 years, the American Industrial Hygiene Foundation (AIHF) has awarded more than 680 scholarships totaling nearly $2 million to students dedicated to studying industrial hygiene and/or occupational and environmental health safety.  Every year, the AIHF awards qualified students and young professionals with scholarships of varying types to help offset costs in their pursuit of a career in industrial hygiene.  

With a variety of scholarships available (PIttsburgh AIHA sponsors a scholarship), students in undergraduate and graduate degree programs that lead to a career in industrial hygiene can find varying levels of awards and assistance to further their educational opportunities. Unless otherwise noted, interested students should follow the established application and eligibility guidelines for the scholarships listed below.

• Endowed Scholarships
• Grants and Other Scholarships
• Active AIHA Local Section and Volunteer Group Scholarships
• Corporate Scholarships

The deadline to submit all AIHF application materials is February 1, 2021. All materials must be completed and answered in full and can now be completed using an online application portal.

The American Industrial Hygiene Foundation is accepting scholarship applications for the 2020–2021 academic year. Students are evaluated on academic record, extracurricular activities, future goals as an industrial hygienist, and potential for leadership in the industrial hygiene profession. 

​The Pittsburgh Local Section of the AIHA sponsors a $1,000 scholarship award -- In awarding the Pittsburgh Local Scholarship, preference will be given to students with a GPA of 3.0 or better from the following schools:

• Slippery Rock University
• Indiana University of Pennsylvania
• West Virginia University

There’s still time to give to AIHF and receive a tax deduction in 2019. Donating to AIHF will help ensure that deserving students preparing for careers in industrial hygiene will receive scholarships. Detailed information about making a donation or a pledge can be found online. 

Since 1982, AIHF has distributed more than $2 million to more than 700 students studying industrial hygiene and related disciplines at fifty-plus schools and universities. These scholarships have enabled talented students to complete their education and have encouraged the most promising scholars to enter or remain in the industrial hygiene profession.

The Pittsburgh AIHA congratulates Ms. Linda H. Martin from Indiana University of PA who was awarded the 2019 Pittsburgh AIHA Local Section Scholarship by the American industrial Hygiene Foundation. Linda is a tenure-track faculty member at Keene State College and the program coordinator of Keene State College's M.S. in Safety and Occupational Health Applied Sciences degree program. Linda is the 2018 and 2019 President of the Board of Directors for the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, the 2018 and 2019 Chair of the Board of Trustees of the BCSP Foundation, and a BCSP Ambassador. She is a professional member of the Greater Boston and Granite State chapters of ASSP and a professional member of AIHA. 

Linda was recognized during this year's AIHce along with all other AIHF scholarship recipients at the AIHF Donor and Scholarship Recipient Reception at Crave Minneapolis and The Mark of Excellence Breakfast on Wednesday, May 22 at Minneapolis Convention Center (MCC).

The Pittsburgh AIHA will once again sponsor a $1,000 scholarship award through the American Industrial Hygiene Foundation.  AIHF Scholarships are awarded based on the availability of funds provided through contributions from AIHA members, individuals, corporations, and local sections. Students do not apply for a specific scholarship. Students who complete an application will be considered for all the scholarships for which they are eligible. The AIHF Scholarship Selection Committee will determine the scholarship awards during the selection process.

All full or part time students who will be enrolled in one of the following programs at the start of the fall semester are eligible to apply to the AIHF Scholarship Program. 

• A graduate or undergraduate degree program that is fully ABET-accredited under the Industrial Hygiene Program Criteria or under the Environmental, Health, and Safety Program Criteria.
• A graduate degree program fully accredited by CEPH as a program with a concentration in Environmental Health.
• An Industrial Hygiene or similarly named program offered at a NIOSH-ERC university. 
• The M.S. in Occupational and Environmental Hygiene at New York University. Note: Only NYU students are eligible for the Dr. Morton Lippmann Scholarship.
• An industrial hygiene or similarly named program at one of the following Canadian institutions: McGill University, University of British Columbia, Université de Montréal, Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR), or Universityof Toronto.

One application qualifies students for up to 30 different awards.
