On April 21, 2022, the Slippery Rock University (SRU) AIHA Student section hosted two guest speakers for their spring meeting. Erin Sawor, graduate of the SRU program in 2020, joined over Zoom and provided a look into the qualitative exposure assessment process followed by her IH team at Zachry Group in San Antonio, TX. Following Erin’s presentation, Laura Allen with Cardno ChemRisk, now Stantec, spoke about a recent research project involving quantitative assessment of formaldehyde exposure in funeral homes. Both speakers gave the SRU AIHA student section valuable insight into what the future holds for an industrial hygienist. The student section looks forward to hosting more speakers in the coming semester to continue to educate future safety professionals about IH. Additionally, the SRU student section is seeking willing volunteers to take them on tours at industrial facilities. If your workplace will allow for visitors, please consider hosting the group and sharing your knowledge with the next generation of IHs! Reach out to Matt Zock or Laura Allen if you would be willing to volunteer for a site visit or future presentation.
